The documented history of Barcelona dates back to the founding of a Roman colony on its region. However it was in the second century B.C. when Barcelona experienced spectacular growth and economic revival. By the second half of the 19th century Barcelona was already a world class city. The famous 1888 World's Fair became a symbol for the international vision projected by the city and its inhabitants. Barcelona quickly became famous for its art, architecture, and overall rich culture. The city’s beautiful
past is documented in the very streets and buildings.
