Planning a wedding is one of the most stressful things a young couple can go through: thankfully you get to have a lovely holiday at the end of it. The honeymoon can sometimes be as extravagant as the big day itself, but with your purse strings already being tightened, wouldn't it make more sense to look for a holiday that’s a little less expensive?
I’m not suggesting compromising on quality: but some of the best holiday destinations can be found closer to home, avoiding expensive long haul flights and bizarre exchange rates. Search for all inclusive deals to get an even better bargain.
Sardinia
West of Italy and South of Corsica, the island of Sardinia has been a favourite destination of celebrities for years. The Costa Smeralda on the North of the island is famed worldwide for long stretches of white sandy beaches, luxury resorts and Michelin star restaurants: perfect for those who want the Caribbean island experience without the massive cost.

If you want to save even more money (and up the romance a bit) consider heading a little further south, into the countryside. The beautiful scenery and beaches remain, but less people speak English. Is there anything more
romantic than spending your holidays knowing that there’s no one else for miles around?

Montenegro
One of the most beautiful Balkan countries, Montenegro, has miles of gorgeously rugged coastline and is situated on the Adriatic Sea. It’s one of the world’s newest countries, too, only gaining independence from Yugoslavia in 1992. If you and your partner enjoy adventure travel, there’ll be plenty to keep you occupied in the mountains and lakes towards the interior of the country.
The beaches and pretty cobbled streets of the 9th Century town of Budva (which juts out into the sea) are the perfect backdrop for the most romantic all inclusive holidays; the perfect way to save money on your honeymoon whilst seeing a part of the world that will turn your friends green with envy.
Albufeira
Perhaps you don’t want to head too far off the beaten track. Perhaps you enjoy fun filled evenings, cheap and tasty local beer, and a destination that combines the beach life with the nightlife. Well, Portugal’s Algarve region, and the tourist resort of Albufeira, is the perfect destination for you.
The pretty old town is perfect for strolling around during the day, and there’s always something going on, from street entertainers, to live music. There are plenty of bars, restaurants and clubs; but somehow the Algarve manages to stop short of the full on cheesiness of the Spanish Costas. Portugal is fairly cheap too, meaning more money to spend on Fig leaves to get into the Honeymoon mood.
